Broadview Capital Holdings, a wholly owned subsidiary of Broadview Group Holdings, is a St. Louis-based investment company that invests primarily in commodity futures markets. The company also invests in other strategies to complement its commodity portfolio.
As a member of the Agriculture Group of Broadview Capital Holdings, the Senior Analyst, Softs will be responsible for management of the company’s soft commodity positions, including coffee, cocoa, sugar and cotton, with oversight and input from the Group Leader, Agriculture. This position will have primary responsibility for the company’s softs P&L. Duties will be primarily focused on portfolio management, fundamental research and analysis, and industry networking.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Management
Manage positions in softs sector which currently includes ICE cocoa, cotton, coffee, and sugar
Use all available resources, including the Company’s proprietary models and tools, to identify attractive risk/return trades and build a balanced position within the risk parameters prescribed by the Group Leader
Use market knowledge to identify discretionary/non-core strategy opportunities and make recommendations for execution to the Group Leader
Monitor market news and data for information impacting the portfolio and available opportunities
Develop daily trading strategy for entry and exit of softs positions, including intra-day changes
Work with the Trade Operations Analyst to optimize trade execution and minimize slippage
Complete operational tasks associated with accurate reporting and reconciliation of the softs portfolio
Support the Group Leader in continuous improvement of the investment process and developing long-term strategy
Participate in agriculture capital allocation and portfolio discussions regarding positioning and available opportunities in the livestock and grain & oilseeds sectors
Participate periodically in LTRM meetings to allocate capital and risk across sectors (BCH’s internal risk and capital allocation group)
Fundamental Research and Analysis
Perform fundamental research and analysis to support portfolio management decisions and identify attractive risk/return opportunities
Evaluate and manage 3rd party research and data subscriptions, identifying opportunities based on gaps in current data and analysis
Build standard reports and analysis for internal use
Industry Networking
Develop and nurture industry relationships within the softs sector
Attend industry conferences and events to build industry network
Assist the Group Leader in organizing meetings to host industry contacts and external stakeholders to discuss current and future market developments
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance in finance, economics or a technical field (engineering,math, or hard science)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in commodity trading or merchandising role, or similar role in an agricultural business with significant exposure to commodity trading
Understanding of commodity trading and fundamental analysis
Significant experience and competency in Microsoft Excel
Experience with a programming language (VBA, Python, R) preferred, but not required
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
An entrepreneurial spirit, including the ability to work hard, learn quickly, develop creative solutions, eliminate barriers and deliver results with minimal resources
